The North American Wind Research and Training Center at Mesalands Community College was a finalist for the NAIOP 2011 Awards of Excellence.
The New Mexico Chapter of the NAIOP annually recognizes excellence in commercial real estate from around the state in various categories. The new wind center was a finalist in the education post secondary category.
"The NAIOP is recognized as the premier commercial real estate association statewide. The awards reflect the recognition of the businesses and professionals involved in the commercial real estate industry,” said Lynne Anderson, president of the New Mexico Chapter of the NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association.
The selection process for this award started in August when information was sent out to statewide developers, architects, engineers, contractors, building owners, requesting submissions for this award. The initial entries are reviewed by a panel of representatives from the various professions. The finalists are then submitted to a panel of five statewide judges.
Judges scored the entries based on the project description, which included information pertaining to the location within the community and suitability for the market, layout and building design, and special features and community enhancements. Judges also scored the challenges faced by the builder, designer, and/or developer with the completion of the project.
“It’s an honor to be a finalist for this prestigious award,” Mildred Lovato, president of Mesalands Community College said. “This recognizes the North American Wind Research and Training Center as one of the finest newly constructed facilities in the state, with its functionality, and many green technology elements.”
College representatives were presented with a plaque in honor of being a finalist for this award, which will be displayed in the new wind center.
