    The Tucumcari Oasis Tree Project helping in the beautification of Tucumcari by offering memberships to the Arbor Day Foundation. The fee is $10 and each person receives 10 free trees. Rebecca Blakeney started the project. She said when she moved to Tucumcari in September and saw the community had been planting trees around the town, she wanted to help the community with getting more trees planted.     A former Quay County resident home to visit family over the holiday weekend recalled his time in New York in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. "The damage was widespread," said Chris Arnett, journeyman lineman for American Electric Power, Abeline, Texas.     Lt. Gov. John Sanchez stopped in Tucumcari on Tuesday to listen to citizen concerns. About 25 people attended Mobile Office Day. Some asked Sanchez about the Ute Lake pipeline project and what will be done during the 60-day session of the Legislature, starting in January. Sanchez said the project was a concern of Gov. Susana Martinez would be discussed during the session.     Black Friday in Tucumcari turned out the community in large numbers. Rhonda Kandel, manager of K Mart, said the store had many special sales for shoppers. She said Tucumcari shoppers were fantastic and were shopping Tucumcari in better numbers this year with three days of door buster sales.   • Area agencies reach out to needy during holidays

    Two area agencies are working to ensure the less fortunate have a merry Christmas. Since 2005, the Helping Hands Hospice has raised money for their Angel Fund through ceramic angels, said Sherri Lopez, administrator. Lopez said the fund is set up for patients and their families for unforeseen occurrences that may happen throughout the year.
