    QCS Managing Editor Evidence from police investigations, including articles of clothing, dominated Tuesday’s testimony in the trial of Randall Jones. The state is expected to end its case today at which time, the defense will begin presenting witnesses. Jones is on trial for the murder of Shirley Pacheco on July 9, 2011, in which he killed Pacheco with at least 11 blows from a claw hammer, as attorneys for both the prosecution and defense agree.     QCS Managing Editor A plan to use vacant, city-owned land to attract and retain businesses in Tucumcari got an enthusiastic reception at a public workshop on Tuesday but no action.     QCS Staff Quay County’ unemployment rate for April was 5 percent, down from 6.5 percent in March and lower than the 5.6 percent unemployment rate in April 2013. Quay County’s labor force was at 3,603 in April, compared with 3,683 in March and 3,604 in April 2013. There were 182 persons unemployed in April, compared with 240 in March and 202 unemployed in April 2013 New Mexico’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 6.8 percent in April 2014, down from 7.0 percent in March 2014 and down from 6.9 percent a year ago.     QCS Staff Seven members of the Mesalands Community College Rodeo Team have qualified to compete in the 2014 College National Finals Rodeo by delivering strong performances at their final rodeo of the season April 26-27 at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces.
