  • Moment of bipartisanship needs support

    Jun 5, 2019

When Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz and New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez agree on something maybe it is time to declare victory. Or the Apocalypse. It all started when Ocasio-Cortez tweeted “if you are a member of Congress + leave, you shouldn’t be allowed to turn right around&leverage your service for a lobbyist check.” Quickly, Cruz responded. “Here’s something I don’t say often: on this point, I AGREE with @AOC Indeed, I have long called for a LIFETIME BAN on former Members of Congress becoming lobbyists. • Here's a quick Mueller scorecard

    Steve Hansen|Jun 5, 2019

Here’s my scorecard on questions related to Robert Mueller’s investigation into whether the campaign of President Donald Trump conspired with Russia: Did President Donald Trump or his campaign cooperate with Russian efforts to affect the outcome of the 2016 election? He did find evidence that the campaign might have known about and encouraged Russia’s anti-Hillary Clinton efforts. Reasonable doubt...

  • Take time to learn a language

    Tom McDonald|Jun 5, 2019

One of my great regrets is not learning another language. I took Spanish in high school for a couple of years, but didn’t practice it enough over the years to go beyond the few words I’ve recalled since moving out here to New Mexico. And when I married into Japan, I found that my tongue just didn’t work right for Japanese, so I got discouraged and quit. I often joke that I am in fact bilingual — I know both English and Southern — but that’s just me covering up my own lack of knowing a real second language and explaining away the twang in my...

  • He has many rivals, but no equals

    Gordan Runyan|Jun 5, 2019

The deity of Jesus of Nazareth is a central theme of the Bible. The historic Christian teaching is Jesus Christ is the Son of God, fully divine and yet fully human at the same time. He is the Creator, come to walk in the form of a creaturely human. The lines of evidence for this are many and varied. I don’t have space to document them all here, but I will catalog some. In the first category of evidence, Jesus is directly called God in several places. (John 1:1-14; Philippians 2:6; Hebrews 1...

    Ron Warnick|Jun 5, 2019

Vastly improved weather conditions made all the difference with attendance Saturday during the 50th anniversary of the Tucumcari Historical Museum. Spitting rain and cold temperatures depressed attendance at the previous special event in mid-April. On Saturday, ample sunshine, gentle breezes and temperatures in the 80s led to bigger crowds. More than 150 people went into the museum's main building's by mid-afternoon Saturday after it didn't reach 100 during the April event. Dozens more milled...
