The new members of the New Mexico Racing Commission held their first meeting Friday and chose officers. But what direction the agency would take regarding a coveted sixth license remains unknown — for now. Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham on April 25 appointed five new commissioners to oversee the state’s horseracing industry. The new commission convened a special meeting Friday and had a sixth license on the official agenda, but took no action on that matter after at least two hours in executive session. Warren Frost, one of the principals for Cor...

The festival that pays tribute to the early 1960s Clint Eastwood television western shot near Tucumcari has a more solid number on the crowds it draws instead of "guess-timates" of previous years, as festival...

“O how I love thy law! It is my meditation all the day.” (Psalm 119:97) Many Christians have been taught to fear or even despise God’s law. Generally, this fault can be laid at the feet of a particular, false theology that developed in England and America in the mid-19th century, called dispensationalism. It is true the Bible warns us against using the law in an unlawful manner; that is, using it in a manner the law never intended. This is the great burden of the whole book of Galatians, for i...

About this time every year, parents all over New Mexico swell with pride as their daughters and sons walk across the graduation stage — and wave goodbye. The walk is ceremonial; the wave, at least for small towns, is figurative. As the urbanization of America continues, fewer of these young men and women will be staying in or returning to their hometown, simply because the opportunities they seek aren’t there. Some of them will choose to carve out a life in their hometown, while many others will move on. Their futures depend in large part on...

The Tucumcari baseball team failed to snap its long losing streak during a 10-4 loss in its season finale Thursday at district foe Sandia Prep, but the Rattlers’ coach saw encouraging things that might lead to improvement next year.
