A Tucumcari police officer facing criminal criminal charges resigned last week. Pete Vargas, 32, a 3 1/2-year veteran of the police department, tendered his resignation effective April 19, according to Tucumcari Police Chief Jason Braziel. Braziel said he wouldn't comment on the reason for Vargas' resignation. Vargas surrendered Feb. 27 to state police after an incident the day before at his girlfirend's residence. The Eastern New Mexico Water Utility Authority hired legal representation for a lawsuit filed last week by the Village of Logan during a special meeting Monday morning at Clovis City Hall. The meeting included a 25-minute executive session for discussion of the lawsuit that called for a halt to construction, funding and advancement of the any portion of the authority's Eastern New Mexico Rural Water System project. My interest in those aircraft that fill the sky will always make me feel like a kid. This weekend the Tucumcari Convention Center played host to the Quay County Wellness Fair. There were several exhibits and booths to receive information and health services from. Two of the main attractions, to me, were the medical transport helicopters. One was from the Clovis area, AeroCare, and the other was a Life Star transport from Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo.
