  • Child Find screening planned

    Quay County schools will have a pair of Child Find preschool screening clinics. The free clinics are scheduled for 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. March 29 at Logan Schools and 9 a.m.-11 a.m. May 21 at House Schools. The clinics are for children 5 and younger. A representative from ENMRSH and Clovis MECA Therapies will be present at each clinic, which serves to locate, identify, and refer as early as possible all young children with disabilities and their families who are in need of special programs or education.     Last week, Sonny Conklin of Muleshoe called to invite his old teacher to have lunch with him and his sister, Kay Conklin Hagler, of Clovis. Of course, this teacher accepted the invitation and had a wonderful time visiting with those two former students who had helped me to begin my teaching career 57 years ago at Forrest. As we ate and visited, we did much laughing and talking about that year and what experiences we remembered. The years slipped away as I began to see those two people as the teenagers in various classes I taught in 1955-56.... Full story

    Last week, Sonny Conklin of Muleshoe called to invite his old teacher to have lunch with him and his sister, Kay Conklin Hagler, of Clovis. Of course, this teacher accepted the invitation and had a wonderful time visiting with those two former students who had helped me to begin my teaching career 57 years ago at Forrest. As we ate and visited, we did much laughing and talking about that year and what experiences we remembered.     Voters will have two contested races for the Quay County Commission and two uncontested races in the June 5 primaries, followed by four uncontested races in the Nov. 5 general election.     Thomas Garcia A Tucumcari woman advanced to the top 100 in a national model search contest. Cassie Huffman, a mental health counselor who teaches a psychology class at Mesalands Community College, survived the first cut in the Maurice’s Main Street Model Search. “Thank you all,” Huffman said. “Without your votes, I would not have made it this far.” Huffman was one of 1,400 women who entered the contest, with more than 128,800 online voters paring down the selections. “We are very pleased with the voter turnout for the second year,” said...
