    Steve Hansen, Correspondent|Mar 14, 2018

City Project Manager Mark Martinez is expected to be named Tucumcari’s interim city manager at Thursday’s Tucumcari City Commission meeting. Thursday also marks the end of current City Manager Jared Langenegger’s tenure in that position, a job he has held since October 2014. Langenegger’s last day was “accelerated” at a special meeting of the commission on March 5. Langenegger said moving the date up from April 11 to Thursday was not his idea. The discussion that led to changing his date of leaving was held in executive session, and neither...

  • Trump, please back away from tariff ledge

    San Diego Union-Tribune|Mar 14, 2018

Has the United States — which has generally been a champion of free trade since World War II — been the victim of unfair trading practices by other nations? Certainly. It’s neither new or particularly unusual for nations to subsidize industries to try to get footholds in world markets. By example, over the past 20 years, China has gone from being a marginal maker of steel and aluminum to producing roughly half the world’s output of both metals — undercutting companies in other nations that can’t subsidize sales. This practice led the Obama a...

  • You just might know a psychopath

    Steve Hansen, Correspondent|Mar 14, 2018

I’ve been doing some reading about psychopaths. I’m not sure how that got started, but it might have been a referral in an article about working in President Donald Trump’s White House. I think he’s a psychopath, but I think Bill Clinton is one, too. Politicians and business leaders are more likely to be psychopaths than the rest of the population, and some who have studied psychopaths say some presidents are right in there. Psychopaths don’t have to be criminals. They represent about 1 percent of the population as a whole. Many end up in pri...

  • Christians need the whole Bible

    Gordan Runyan, Religion columnsit|Mar 14, 2018

I encounter the following objection quite a bit. It normally comes in response to my having pointed out that the Law of God found in the Bible does indeed speak to current issues. It comes from people professing faith in Jesus. The objection is this: “But, pastor! That's in the Old Testament! We're not living under that Law. We're New Covenant believers.” Before I answer this, let me agree with the premise, at least in part. We (Christians) are in the New Covenant, not the Old. Jesus Christ is...
