  • God gives cause to leap for joy

    Mar 7, 2012

Last Wednesday was leap day. Leap day comes every four years, except for century years not divisible by 400, and was originally added to the calendar by Julius Caesar because the lunar year is actually longer than 364 days. Leap day is a make up day to keep our accounting of time aligned with God’s (Genesis 1:14-19, although I’d bet Caesar would never admit that). The most recent change to the calendar came in the 1500s so that Easter will always come at the right time of year in relation to Passover, which is defined by the lunar cycle and...

  • Limbaugh's words hurt conservative cause

    Mar 7, 2012

The language wasn't the worst part about Rush Limbaugh's tirade last week, in which he called a Georgetown University law student a "slut" and a "prostitute" because she wants contraception to be a requirement of health insurance. Limbaugh's decision to target a private citizen, rather than, say, President Obama who has championed the idea, wasn't the worst part either. Oh, those were poor choices alright, choices that ignite calls for government to limit what can be said on radio and TV and, ultimately, in coffee shops and across back fences...

  • Trip to canyons refreshing

    Mar 7, 2012

A few weeks ago, Prissy and I drove "out home" to see the canyons and to allow this woman from lma a few minutes to collect a little sanity in order to keep going for a while longer. That peace and quiet there can be found no place else for me and is most necessary to experience whenever possible. Just looking into those canyons and listening to the echoes releases the building tension and relaxes the muddled mind. Prissy, the big black lab, had been there once before and was eager to get her feet on the ground. I always stop first at the site...

The Lady Coyotes’ aggressive rebounding throughout the second and third period kept the Lady Longhorns from closing the double digit gap. “We allowed them to attack us in the second and third quarters,” Rachor said. “That gave them to opportunity to develop that lead.” With no second or third chance shot opp...
