The Apostle Peter was about to foul up. And not just a little. Any Christian with an ounce of spiritual sensitivity knows that we all "deny" Christ whenever we choose for self and not for God, hurt others, live selfishly, make poor choices, commit sin, etc. We all have, and we all do. In some way, we "deny" him every day by some poor attitude, word, or deed. But Peter, the first to confess out loud that Jesus is "the very Son of God," Peter of "rock-like" faith fame, Peter who would later see visions, preach the Good News to the Gentiles,...

A former Quay County Detention Center officer accused of giving the wrong medicine to inmates appealing told Quay County Grievance Board members she shouldn't be fired because others have made the same errors. "There have been mistakes made before by others, I am not the only one to make this type of mistake," said Barbara Jiminez, who was appealing her termination. Last November, 542,928 New Mexicans voted to have the Legislature increase the qualifications to serve on the Public Regulation Commission. In no uncertain terms, 80 percent of the voting public decided being 18 years old and felony-free wasn't enough to justify a $92K-a-year salary and determine how much New Mexicans pay for electricity or natural gas or phone services, or what constitutes a fair rate of return for those industries. Legislation introduced in the House of Representatives, HB 47, honors that intent. It requires a bachelor's...
Well, if Punxsutawney Phil had been in our area last Saturday morning, he would've seen his shadow and scurried back into his hole, telling us there'd be a long six more weeks of winter. If he hadn't seen his shadow (which was the case where Phil lives in Pennsylvania), he would've stayed out indicating that there'd be an early spring only a mere month and a half away. We don't have groundhogs in our area, but our prairie dogs don't seem to be afraid of their own shadows, probably because we have very few cloudy days compared to wintertime in...

I know I'm not alone when I say I can't hardly wait for the warmth of spring. Give me thunderstorms, give me hail. I'll even take a power outage or two. In case you haven't heard or read I don't like the cold. In fact, I despise the snow. If it weren't for the need of moisture I'd say do away with snow all together, in our area if course. I can understand snow being in the areas of the world where people ski, though there is no need for snow to share the ground with cactus. I long for the return of those wonderful April showers, when the grass...
Although many of you did not know my father, those of you who did will remember that he liked to tease people and to play practical jokes. He and Uncle Herman would surround themselves with laughter as they teased back and forth. As I began to do a little growing in those canons, Dad taught me about teasing and how to tell when he was teasing. When I was old enough to begin to understand a little about life, Dad explained the importance of teasing in the event I really wanted to learn about people's reactions to life. I watched him as he met...
