"Not only do our men and women in uniform defend our freedom, they also make significant contributions to our...

I like to eat, and there were several days between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day that my tummy got tight as a tick, almost to the point of misery. It should be noted that this condition is not exclusive to the holidays. Although it wasn't a holiday meal, I know of one young person who got sick, probably because he ate so much at one meal. While he obviously didn't feel so well right before the relief came, the incident did give me the idea for this article. The Bible says that God gives us the desires of our heart (Psalm 20:4), but the... Full story

I arrived home the other night to my wife toiling intently over a hot stove. "What ya got cookin' there?" I asked. "Real chocolate pudding," she answered. I inspected her work and asked why she didn't have any white bread heels in the pot. That really puzzled her and I realized my dad had never made chocolate pudding for her before he died. The wife wanted to know why chocolate pudding was supposed to have bread crumbled into it because she had never had it that way herself. I said the only idea I had for why was that it added volume and stretc...

By denying a permit for the Keystone XL pipeline last week, President Barack Obama may succeed in delaying until after November's election the politically difficult decision of which loyal constituency to offend, big labor or environmental activists. What is more certain is that the political maneuvering to deny a permit for the controversial 1,600-mile pipeline from Canadian wells to Texas refineries has an immediate, deleterious effect: It costs America thousands of jobs. The president's decision is contrary to consumer needs, ultimately...

Dwayne Andreas, chairman of Archer Daniels Midland, told Mother Jones: "There isn't one grain of anything in the world that is sold in a free market. Not one! The only place you see a free market is in the speeches of politicians." The government in our country is deeply involved in shaping the market in every area. Big bad government? No! The power that money wields in our society determines the agenda and outcome that we get from "their" government. Democrat, Republican, libertarian ... it makes no difference. The deciding factor is what the... Full story

A friend of mine sat down with me for a few minutes to discuss the need to remind people about sportsmanship. At the time we were both enjoying a high school basketball game in which both teams are a local favorites. While there were a few outburst at this game, the fans were good spirited and no vulgar or extreme outburst were made. Now don’t get me wrong. It’s OK to cheer, and we all speak up when a call is missed or a bad call is made. However, there are times when people say some things that are not OK. They scream at other members in the...
Through the years, we have noted various status symbols among our farming and ranching citizens. The best horses, the heaviest cattle, the biggest tractor, the fanciest truck, and the list goes on. At the moment, the main symbol seems to be having the muddiest vehicle. Just watching the people as they compare their vehicles is a major form of entertainment for the natives. Many of those who usually have the shiny vehicles are now proud to show off a lot of red mud from the top of the cab to the trailer hitch. I've had fun checking parking lots...
