Living in the southwest or, more specifically, New Mexico or, as I like to call it, home has made me, like many others, addicted to hot food. Mesalands Community College is offering a new weight loss class this semester to help people reach their fitness goals in the New Year. HPE 136: Health and Fat Loss Challenge is a 16-week educational and physical activity program to improve overall health while losing body fat. The 11-4 San Jon Coyotes face the 5-13 Broncos Thursday at Floyd. The Coyotes are coming off a narrow 55-54 win over the 10-6 Quemado Eagles Saturday at San Jon. Trailing throughout most of the game, the Coyotes managed to gain a single point lead in the closing seconds of final period and hold on for the win. Despite its request for an injunction being denied in federal court, the Village of Logan will continue to fight construction of the Ute Water Project. "We are very disappointed with Judge Johnson's ruling," said Larry Wallin, Village of Logan administrator. U.S. District Court judge William P. A presidential screening committee has been selected by the Mesalands Community College's Board of Trustees. The board of trustees voted unanimously to approve the 13-member committee and will meet with them during a special board meeting at 5:30 p.m., on Friday. "We feel we have a well grounded group of individuals for this committee," said James Streetman, committee chairman. Last week, we visited about the joys of living in a small town and how fortunate we are. Let's continue along that same line as we think about a few more habits we exhibit. I was reminded of one of them when I heard a news report about a project in Boston in which a group of people decided to show how much a simple smile can mean to the passersby. I saw a billboard recently that said "Truck Wash" at the top and "Hand Wash" at the bottom. My first thought was about what was being washed was that it was neat that you could wash whatever you wanted from your truck (the biggest thing on the road) to just your hands. After I realized that the sign was probably referring to how the trucks were washed, it also occurred to me that some people want to worship God on their own terms.
