Two people died Friday night after the car they were riding was struck by a freight train between Tucumcari and Logan, reported New Mexico State Police. The accident occurred at 7:07 p.m. at a rail crossing on Quay Road Ad, just off U.S. 54. Republican candidate Brian Fortner cruised to an easy win over Democratic challenger Tommy Wallace for the Quay County District 3 commission seat in unofficial election results Tuesday. Two people died Friday night after the car they were riding was struck by a freight train halfway between Tucumcari and Logan, reported a New Mexico State Police officer at the scene.
