CLOVIS -- Some said last week’s meeting of the Ute Water Commission was contentious. Others called it a good discussion. A continuing “negative” advertising campaign by the village of Logan regarding the Ute Reservoir and the Ute Water Project was called into question by Commission Chair Mike Morris, highlighting the meeting at the Clovis-Carver Public Library’s North Annex. “Would the village of Logan like to respond to their spending of public money to oppose the Ute Water Project?” Morris posed after he reviewed points of the Commission’s Jo... The Bank of Clovis has been working on expanding in the region, but in a way you may not recognize. The banks don't bear the name "Bank of Clovis." They are the Bank of Clayton, the Bank of Logan and soon there will be a Bank of Tucumcari and the Bank of Des Moines, all divisions of The Bank of Clovis. Bank of Clovis President Randy Harris came up with the idea with the first bank he opened. "The first one was the Bank of Clovis. Look, the bottom line is rural communities on the east side of...
CLOVIS — Clovis Mayor Mike Morris on Thursday again called on City Commissioner David Bryant to resign amid allegations he failed to attend a training session the city paid for him to attend. Morris first made the allegation public on June 23 and promised to bring it up again the next time commissioners met, which was Thursday. Morris claims Bryant engaged in a “misuse of public funds” since he stayed in a hotel at city expense where the training was held. Bryant was absent from Thursday’s meeting. He offered no explanation for his absence...
CLOVIS — An anti-abortion ordinance designed to keep abortion clinics from setting up shop in Clovis will become the city’s newest ordinance with a 7-0 vote of approval at Thursday’s regular session of the city commission. District 2 Commissioner Lauren Rowley abstained from the vote. “I still think we need to wait until after the legislative session,” Rowley said of her abstention after the meeting. The proposed ordinance was tabled the first time it came up for a vote in November. An attempt to un-table the matter failed at a December...
CLOVIS — Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has called the state Legislature back to Santa Fe for a special session slated to start April 5. Legislators wrapped up their regular session Feb. 17. “We just have to work on three things,” said state Sen. Pat Woods, R-Broadview. “Funding this special session, introducing a bill, which should be a carbon copy of the funding bill she vetoed with her changes and a rebate for state residents. “They should have this all worked out in advance and we should all be done in about 15 minutes,” Woods said. House...
I got a phone call the other day. It seems there was this big family get-together planned on the Fourth of July. The caller complained they didn't want to go. It seems they were on the outs with another family member. "Well it would seem that if you really don't want to go you shouldn't go," I said. What else could I say? And the call ended. "What did they decide?" asked The Lady of the House. "They're not going," I said. "Boy," said The Lady of the House. "In our day we didn't have a choice. We had to go. Wasn't that the way it was in your...
