  • State judge dismisses one of three lawsuits against Ute pipeline project

    A state judge on Monday granted a motion to dismiss litigation the Village of Logan filed in an attempt to halt construction on the Eastern New Mexico Rural Water System, also known as the Ute Water Project. The litigation, heard by Judge Sarah Singleton of the First Judicial Court in Santa Fe, is one of three that have been filed this year against the Eastern New Mexico Water Utility Authority, a body comprised of municipalities in Curry and Roosevelt counties.     After 10 days of 'Nancy's Truck' driving through Clovis and Portales collecting nonperishable goods, the campaign was declared a success by the organization. The Food Bank of Eastern New Mexico celebrated a ribbon-cutting on Tuesday, and dedicated 'Nancy's Truck' to Nancy Taylor, 70, who died in August and serving as the director of the Food Bank of Eastern New Mexico for 29 years.   • FCC grants Plateau $9.6 million for improving wireless in rural areas

    A local communications provider is one of three statewide that received federal money to upgrade mobile service in rural areas of New Mexico that lack 3G or 4G wireless service. According to a release from Sen. Tom Udall, D-N.M., Plateau Telecommunications Inc. received $9.6 million to upgrade service across seven counties in the central and southeastern areas of the state.     Noe Torres Accused child killer and former fugitive Noe Torres is due back in Clovis Wednesday to face murder charges. District Attorney Matt Chandler said the U.S. Marshals Service returned Torres to New Mexico on Tuesday from Mexico City, where he was captured Jan. 25 after almost seven years on the run.     MELROSE — The first phase of the Ute water pipeline is expected to begin in mid-July despite a federal lawsuit and two civil lawsuits seeking to halt the project.
