  • Charges dropped against former Clovis police officer

    CLOVIS — Criminal charges against a Clovis police officer involved in a fatal vehicle accident in 2010 were dropped Friday. Attorney Dan Lindsey said Judge Teddy Hartley dropped charges after ruling interference in grand jury deliberations. Officer Stephen Gallegos, no longer with the Clovis Police Department, was indicted in January 2011 on charges of vehicular homicide and causing great bodily injury.     Six Clovis residents entered a no-plea Tuesday in Quay County Magistrate Court to multiple felony charges in connection with a Memorial Day weekend boating accident on Ute Lake that resulted in critical injuries to a friend. Brittany Holt, Jonathon Maes, Logan Denton, all 21, Tre Orozco, Kendra Gibbons, both 18, and Spencer Norris, 20, were released on bond, according to court records.     New Mexico State Police divers recovered the body of 45-year-old Albuquerque man believed drowned Saturday afternoon at Conchas Lake. Lt. Lance Bateman of the state police said divers recovered the body of the man at 5:10 p.m., in 12 feet of water. He said the identity of the man is being with held pending notification of the family.     A 15-year-old Sandia Park male drowned at Conchas Lake diving off of his family's fishing boat Tuesday, according to the New Mexico State Police. The name of the teen was being withheld Tuesday night, Capt. Jimmy Glascock said, pending notification of all immediate family members.     Shaina Pool, 22, of Portales, is in critical condition with life threatening injuries at an Amarillo hospital following a boating accident Sunday on Ute Lake in Logan, according to state police. Capt. Jimmy Glascock said Pool was a passenger in the front of a boat filled with friends. A family friend said the group was heading into shore after a day on the lake.     Shaina Pool, 22, of Portales, is in critical condition at an Amarillo hospital following a boating accident about 6 p.m. Sunday on Ute Lake in Logan, a family friend said.     Tres Amigas has selected Albuquerque for its operations center and Rio Rancho for its backup center. New Mexico cities in the running included Clovis, Albuquerque, Rio Rancho and Belen.     The Eastern New Mexico Water Utility Authority hired legal representation for a lawsuit filed last week by the Village of Logan during a special meeting Monday morning at Clovis City Hall.     A Cannon Air Force Base lieutenant missing since March 12 reported to a California air force base on Monday, according to a press release from Cannon Air Force Base public affairs officials.     A 31-year-old lieutenant has been missing from Cannon Air Force Base for one week, according to base officials. Lt. Scott W. Lee was last seen at 11 a.m. March 12 at his apartment in Clovis. He was scheduled to report for duty at Cannon on March 13 but never reported.
