BERNALILLO — It’s been 14 years since the Grady boys basketball team had made it to the state quarterfinals, whether in Class 1A or Class B.
Today, the young Bronchos will be in the Class B semifinals after erasing a nine-point, fourth-quarter deficit to edge Quemado 51-49 in a quarterfinal clash on Wednesday at Bernalillo H.S.
Sophomore Jay Faust scored 15 points for the fifth-seeded Bronchos (18-10), who face top-seeded Hondo, a 70-54 winner in the quarterfinals over Walatowa Charter, in a 1:15 p.m. matchup today at BHS.
The Bronchos, who have seven freshmen and two sophomores on their 11-man roster, got 3-pointers in the final quarter from senior Trenton Jones and freshman Tucker Northcutt.
Senior Rowdy Cauzza and juniors Darryn Lackey and Matt Rodriguez each scored 10 points for the fifth-seeded Eagles (16-12).
