New Mexico State Police are investigating the shooting death of Tucumcari City Commissioner Daniel Lopez.

Officials said police found Lopez in his Tucumcari home at 11:48 p.m. Saturday, injured by a gunshot. He later died at Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospital in Tucumcari.

State Police Capt. Jimmy Glascock said circumstances surrounding Lopez’s death remain under investigation but officials are not searching for a suspect.

Lopez was a former state police captain stationed in Tucumcari and a former chief of the Tucumcari Police Department. Lopez was elected District 3 city commissioner in March.
