Services: 4 p.m. today at Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery. Irene M. Powers, 84, of Tucumcari died Monday, April 16, 2007, in Amarillo, Texas. She was born Dec 24, 1922 in Spirit Lake, Iowa, to Neil and Beulah Baker Nelson. Mrs. Powers grew up in Spirit Lake, but her playground was Lake Okoboji, Iowa. She enjoyed helping out with the family restaurant on Spirit Lake. She graduated from Spirit Lake High School in Spirit Lake in 1942. Mrs. Powers married Max Davis in 1943 and was widowed after Max Davis lost his life in World War II. Irene re-married Glen G. Powers in 1947. In 1971, Glen and Irene retired to New Mexico from Iowa. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will always be remembered for her sense of humor and outgoing demeanor, her family said. She is survived by three sons, Steve Davis of Fallon, Nev., Phil Powers of Port O’Conner, Texas, Doug Powers of Tucumcari, one daughter, Pam Schuster of Amarillo, one sister, Jean Dawson of Temecula, Calif., one brother, Neil “Bud” Nelson, Jr. of Janesville, Wisc., 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Bob Miller will officiate at the services. Memorial contributions may be made to BSA Hospice, 200 NW 7th Ave., Amarillo, TX 79107. Arrangements are by Dunn Funeral Home of Tucumcari.
