Marie G. Murphy

Services: Will be announced. Marie G. Murphy, 96, previously of Tucumcari and Logan, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007 at Valle Norte Caring Center in Albuquerque. Ms. Murphy was the fourth daughter of Ralph L. Murphy and Nora Belle Durbin Murphy was born Dec. 23,1910 at her Uncle William Jesse Durbin's farm home near Mt. Dora, N.M. She attended school at the Blue Front, Miera, Clapham, Mt. Dora, Perico, and Clayton. At age 18, she entered the convent of the Society of Missionary Catechists, now known as Our Lady of Victory Missionary Sisters. For 43 years she taught religious educator. She served in Indiana, New Mexico, Texas, Nevada, California and Pennsylvania. In 1973, she was granted a dispensation from her religious vows to care for her mother in her declining years. After her mother's death on Jan. 1, 1981 she continued her religious instruction, as well as caring for the aged and helping in the church office until her own health began to decline. Ms. Murphy was preceded in death by her parents, and four sisters: Florence Szabo of Tucumcari; Agnes Wicks of Albuquerque; Mildred Roberts of Eagle Point, Ore.; and Marcella Bailey of Portland, Ore. Survivors include two sisters, Cecilia Brookreson of Albuquerque and Margaret Eutsler of Los Alamos; one brother, Patrick Murphy of Farmington; and many nieces and nephews. Ms. Murphy donated her body to scientific research at the University of New Mexico. At a later date, a memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Tucumcari and her ashes will be interred in the Tucumcari Cemetery.
