Services: 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday there will be a visitation at the Chavez Funeral Home in Fort Sumner. 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Melrose. Bob Franklin, 82, of Tolar, died Thursday, August 2, 2007 at his home following an illness. Mr. Franklin was was born Dec. 29, 1924 at the family home in Tolar. He was reared and attended school at House. He married Kate Louise Mitchell on Sept. 12, 1946 at House. He was a longtime cattle rancher. Mr. Franklin was a member of the First Baptist Church in Melrose for the past 53 years. He enjoyed woodworking and caring for his cattle and horses. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, his family said. He was preceded in death by his parents C.C. and Clara Franklin; sisters Ruby Stowe, Dreatha Shults and his favorite saddle horses Wolf, Jose and Twister. Survivors include his wife Kate of Tolar; a son Jerry (Carolyn) Franklin of Tucumcari; daughter Linda (Derrill) Mitchell of Tolar; four grandsons Brent (Julie) Mitchell of Tolar; Brian (Holli) Mitchell of Lubbock, Texas; Wade (Clayton) Franklin of Lubbock,; Clay (Traci) Franklin of Clovis; three brothers Charles (Linda) Franklin of House; Clifford Franklin of House and Derrell (Karen) Franklin of Melrose and six great-grandchildren. Durward Wofford will officiate. Burial will follow at House Community Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brent Mitchell, Brian Mitchell, Wade Franklin, Clay Franklin, Bryan Mitchell, Miles Mitchell, and Tobby Mitchell. Honorary bearers will be his branding crew. Arrangements are by Chavez Funeral Home of Fort Sumner.
