Roy Hutchens from the Quay valley constructed a tank on his place and stocked it with catfish. Ducks were already on the lake, so he got his ducks and fish right in his own back yard. …Six hundred men, drawn from Quay, Guadalupe, San Miguel, Harding, Mora and Union counties, were at work on Conchas Dam. … W.M. Phipps opened a new filling station selling Phillips 66 products at Newkirk. ... The THS band got uniforms of regulation purple and gold caps and capes, with white trousers, at no cost to the taxpayers.
