W.T. Williamson, city manager, reported the city’s power plant had doubled its electrical output in the last five years. …Adoph Kappel, 36, twice convicted of the ax slaying of his wife in Tucumcari and sentenced to life in prison, escaped from the state penitentiary work gang riding a prison mule and wearing prison denims. Kappel, a life termer, was sentenced to death after the first conviction, but got life after a new trial. He was captured 18 miles southwest of Las Vegas.
