Logan (1-2) has a bye week, Tucumcari (2-1) preps for an old foe, House (0-3) searches for its first win and San Jon (2-1) tries to continue after a big win.
Tucumcari: 2-1
The Rattlers will play host to the 3-0 Farwell, Texas Steers.
“That is my hometown so I know many of the players from that area,” said Rattlers head coach Daniel Hutchins. “They are some good athletes.”
Hutchins said while he is familiar with the team, the Rattlers know the Steers head coach Mike Prokop all too well.
“He was Texico’s head coach,” Hutchins said. “We know he is going to bring a physical defense.”
Hutchins said in the past Prokop has run the defense, while this year at Farwell he has a defensive coordinator.
“We are expecting some different looks and plays from their offense,” Hutchins said. “It is going to be a good game.”
Game time: 7 p.m.
Week 2 recap:
A powerful running attack and hard-hitting defense led Tucumcari to a 43-6 win over the visiting West Las Vegas Dons.
“We had complete confidence in our run game,” Hutchins said.
Four of the six Rattlers touchdowns were on the ground, three by senior Cameron Montano and one by senior Jakus Martinez.
“I love my line,” Montano said. “They gave me the crease I needed each time.”
Rattlers senior quarterback Dalton Wood threw touchdown passes to Martinez and Justin Garcia.
The Steers goose-egged Gruver, Texas 41-0.
Logan: 1-2
Week 2 recap:
The Longhorns lost 54-34 to Gateway Christian.
House: 0-3
The House Cowboys will host the Hondo Valley Eagles Friday.
“The guys are playing well and know their positions,” said Cowboys head coach Bryce Bailey. “We just need to eliminate turnovers.”
Bailey said Hondo has always had good coaching and tough players.
The Cowboys’ injured tight end Cody Pancho may be able to play following a week-two injury at Vaughn.
“We are taking it day by day with Cody” Bailey said.
Eagles head coach Brandon Devine is dealing with injuries following their 51-6 win over Roy.
“Our wide receiver Andrew Padilla broke his arm,” Devine said. “We have a few others who are banged.”
Devine and Bailey both look to make a statement with this first district game.
Game time: 3 p.m.
