Do you like pecans?  The Quay County Extension Service is hosting a pecan bake-off to show off Quay County’s pecan industry.  The contest will be Dec. 10.  The Pecan Treasures Food Show will be held in the extension office located in the Terry Turner Building at 216 E. Center Street.  The people’s choice tasting will be from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m.  Stop by and have a taste, then vote for your favorite goodie.
To enter the contest, you will need to bring your baked item or items to the extension office on Dec. 10 between 8 and 11 a.m.  Products will be judged at 11 and winners will be announced at 4 p.m. after the people’s choice tasting.
Categories are breads, candy, pies, cookies, cakes and miscellaneous.  Youth under 18 years old will be judged separately from adults.  Pecans must be used in the recipe.  Bring the entire recipe so there will be enough for the people’s choice.  Bring baked goods on a disposable plate covered in plastic wrap.  Items cannot require heat or refrigeration to be stored or served.  Be sure to bring a copy of the complete recipe.  Winning recipes will be published.  There will be awards for each category and the judges will select the best of show.
Don’t forget the “creative craft using pecans” category.  Put your imagination caps on and see what you can create.  We have had everything from a broach to a nut bowl.
