Representative Steve Yarbrough, currently Speaker Pro Tempore of the Arizona House, has deep Quay County roots.   Newly elected to the Arizona State Senate where he will chair the Senate Finance Committee,  Yarbrough lived in House, Quay, and Tucumcari from 1947 to 1963.
 
A New Mexico native, his grandparents homesteaded near House in 1912.  His mother, Frances McCullough Yarbrough, and her four siblings all graduated from House High School.  His brother, Ken Yarbrough, longtime Richardson, Texas Chief of Police, graduated from Tucumcari High School in 1961.
 
Senator-elect Yarbrough observed that he still has family living in House, Tucumcari, Clovis, and Las Cruces.  He said “Tucumcari in the 50s and 60s was a wonderful place to grow up.  My education was top notch and I remember its people with great fondness.”
