Shanyn West and Alejandro Velasquez were married Dec. 11 in McKinney, TX with Rev. Susan Gary officiating. Shanyn is the daughter of James and Lucy Heddlesten of San Jon and Alex is the son of Inocencio and the late Maria De La Luz Velasquez of DeSoto, TX.
The bride’s attendants were her sisters, Laura Valdez of San Jon and Julie Montoya of Tucumcari. The groom was attended by Andre Hood and Jason Sleeth of Hampton Roads, VA. Mason Valdez of San Jon was ringbearer and ushers were John Moore and Justin Wood of Arlington, TX.
Shanyn is a 2003 graduate of San Jon High School and a graduate of Clovis Community College and Santa Fe Community College. She is employed by Central Market in Plano, TX. Alex is a 1987 graduate of DeSoto High School and attended El Centro Culinary School. He is employed by M Crowd Restaurant Group in the Dallas area. The couple makes their home in Plano, TX.
Manuel Eliseo Maestas of Tucumcari turned one year old on Monday. He will celebrate his birthday on Saturday with family and friends. Manuel loves books and "Veggie Tales." His parents are Jessica Maestas and Joey Haas. He has one older sister, Destiny Griego. His grandparents are Marcy and the late Manny Maestas, and Steve and Theresa Brown. He has two aunts, Sarah and Abby Maestas.

Abel Sena and Justin Ellis have been teaching traditional Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Apollo's Gym in Tucumcari. The classes are available for adults and children over five years old.
