Carlsbad shuts out Cats

Kevin Barnhart got loose once in each half and the Cavemen made the goals stand up in a 2-0 win over Clovis in District 4-5A boys soccer on Saturday at Yucca Complex.
Despite the loss, CHS coach Shaun Gill said the Wildcats (5-14, 0-3 district) played one of their better matches. The Cavemen improved to 11-6 (2-1).
“We played really good soccer,” Gill said. “We passed very well until we got to the attacking fourth of the field. We just couldn’t get the forwards free (to try to score).”
In the junior varsity matchup, the Cats got two goals from Nate Carter and one from Edgar Montoya to claim a 3-2 victory over Carlsbad.
