Impact: The host Broncos, winners of just one game in 2006, moved over the .500 mark for the season with their fifth victory.
Records: Logan 5-3 (1-1), Floyd 5-4 (1-1).
Difference-maker: Jesus Davalos scored four touchdowns and also intercepted a pass for the Broncos, who rolled into halftime with a 28-0 lead. Edel Sotelo, Chay Chenault and Hunter Terry also had TDs for Floyd.
Of note: The Broncos need a win next Friday at Clovis Christian to secure an 8-man playoff berth.
FORT SUMNER 55, QUESTA 0
Impact: The two-time defending Class 1A state champion Foxes posted their third shutout in a row and fourth in five games since their only loss at Santa Rosa.
Records: Questa 1-7 (0-2 District 2-1A), Fort Sumner 8-1 (1-0).
Difference-makers: Junior QB-CB Berry Stinnett went 10-of-15 passing for 178 yards and three touchdowns, and also returned an interception for a score. Sophomore Laremy Simmons caught one of the TD passes and ran for two more, while junior Anthony Griffin scored one TD rushing and one receiving.
Of note: The Foxes had a 22-6 edge in first downs and limited the Wildcats to 110 total yards.
MELROSE 53, CCS 12
Impact: The host Buffaloes took sole possession of the 8-man District 4 lead.
Records: Clovis Christian 0-9 (0-2), Melrose 6-3 (2-0).
Difference-makers: Sophomore QB Clint Barnard ran for two touchdowns and completed a pair of TD passes to sophomore Mitchum Rush, covering 56 and 51 yards.
Of note: The Buffs play at Logan next Friday looking to wrap up sole possession of the district title.
SUDAN 35, FARWELL 20
Impact: Sudan improved its position in District 2-2A standings with the home win, despite the fact the Hornets were outgained by Farwell in total yardage 286-266.
Records: Sudan 3-5 (2-1), Farwell 1-7 (1-2).
Difference-makers: Sudan’s Brock Steinbock ran for 102 yards and two touchdowns and caught one of two TD passes thrown by quarterback Landry Gunter. Farwell’s Ramon Quezada scored on a 10-yard run and a 38-yard pass from Landry Actinson, while Actinson also threw a 36-yard scoring pass to Roper Ledbetter.
