Impact: With their seventh consecutive victory, the Buffaloes advance to the semifinals of the 8-man playoffs. They will host either top-seeded Mountainair or No. 8 Reserve, who play today at Mountainair, in a 7 p.m. game next Friday.
Records: Valley Christian 6-5, Melrose 8-3.
Difference-maker: Adam Hairgrove and Call Barnard each ran for a pair of touchdowns for the Buffs, including runs of 44 and 70 yards by Hairgrove. Zach Pack caught a 77-yard TD pass from Clint Barnard and ran 39 yards for a score.
Of note: Lane Draper returned a punt 62 yards for a third-quarter TD. … The second half was played with a running clock after Melrose took a 42-0 margin into halftime. … Melrose’s winning streak started with an 18-6 win over the Lions in Melrose in late September.

FORT SUMNER 42, JAL 0
Impact: The two-time defending Class 1A state champion Foxes advanced to the semifinals next weekend, against either Hagerman or Ramah, after building a 36-0 halftime lead. Fort Sumner will be on the road either way next weekend.
Records: Jal 2-8, Fort Sumner 10-1.
Difference-makers: Senior Cass Dimitroff rushed for 160 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries. He also kicked three extra points and started the scoring midway through the first quarter with a 25-yard field goal. Junior Berry Stinnett ran for one TD and threw a 49-yard scoring pass to Gonzalo Martinez.
Of note: Fort Sumner’s defense forced six turnovers — including four interceptions — and limited the Panthers to three first downs and 34 total yards.
MULESHOE 41, FRIONA 6
Impact: The Mules, who had already clinched a playoff berth, locked up sole possession of the District 2-2A title.
Records: Friona 5-5 (3-3 district), Muleshoe 9-1 (6-0).
Difference-makers: Senior QB Garrett Riley threw for three first-half TDs, including a 28-yarder to Dusty Clayton late in the first period to put Muleshoe in front for good. Clayton finished with three catches for 94 yards and two TDs.
Of note: Muleshoe finished with 402 total yards (180 rushng, 202 passing) to 119 for the Chieftains. … The Mules face Sanford-Fritch at 4:30 p.m. (CST) next Friday in a first-round Class 2A playoff game at Dick Bivins Stadium in Amarillo.
NAZARETH 55, FARWELL 14
Impact: The host Swifts wrapped up a perfect run through District 4-1A .
Records: Farwell 1-9 (1-4 district), Nazareth 9-1 (5-0).
