ELIDA — The Elida Tigers ran their season record to 6-0 with a big win over highly-ranked Texico, 73-50, Tuesday. It’s a huge win,” Elida coach Darrell Chenault said. “Texico is one of the premier teams around. We’re going to give them credit, though, I don’t think we saw their best game.” In fact, after trailing through most of three quarters, Texico began to implode in the final period. “We were up by 8 in the third quarter and then it got very physical,” Chenault said. Texico put the Tigers on the line for 28 free throws in the final period and had three players fouled out. Wesley Gilmore led the Tigers with 21 points. Trenton Chenault and Ever Varela had 14 apiece for Elida. Elida travels to the Route 66 Tournament in Tucumcari Thursday. The Texico Lady Wolverines humbled the Elida Lady Tigers by a score of 59-44 Tuesday in a game Elida coach Dan Howard says his team wasn’t ready for yet. “We played well at times and at times we went away,” Howard said. “We’re pretty streaky right now. We just weren’t ready to play at that level yet.” Elida (4-2) only led briefly in the first quarter, as Texico soon put some distance between the two teams on the scoreboard, jumping to a 16-4 lead after one quarter. Elida fell behind 41-29 after three and found themselves in foul trouble and short-handed during the fourth. Three Lady Tigers went out on fouls. Britnie Jasso led the Lady Tiger effort with 10 points, Reavis Best had 8 and Lindsey Bob Smith had 5 before fouling out early in the fourth quarter.
