The Dora Coyotes and Lady Coyotes began their winter break Thursday night with a sweep of the Clovis Christian Eagles. The Dora boys won 71-35, while the girls also won 54-32.
The Coyotes (5-3) took control early, outscoring Clovis Christian (2-6) 19-6 in the first quarter. They added to that lead to take a 38-15 halftime advantage.
The Coyotes kept the pressure on in the second half, to prevail 71-35.
Dora senior Hector Fierro led all scorers with 23 points, followed by junior Kyler Smith’s 14. Wesley Skelley added 11 points and fellow senior Sadler Hair contributed 10.
Keeson Bell led the Eagles with 16 points.
“Our pressure was a lot better,” Dora boys coach Ty Thatcher said. “The kids played a little harder — got after some loose balls, did a lot better job defensively. Offensively, we shot the ball a lot better. Overall it was a pretty good effort.
The Dora girls pulled their early season record above the 500 mark with a 54-32 win against the Clovis Christian girls.
Kendra Merrick led all scorers with 20 points, followed by sister Kelli with 18. Tearney O’Connor added 10.
“We played good defense and offensively things were just going in for us,” Dora head coach Mal Webster said. “They played good all the way around.”
The Dora boys and girls travel to Grady Jan. 3.
The Elida Tigers stayed undefeated (11-0) Thursday night beating Lake Arthur on the road 58-26. The Elida boys earned a big lead early on and led at the half 35-8.

“We played OK,” Elida boys coach Darrell Chenault said. “Our defense really played well. Our offense struggled at times, but we played well. It was a good win.”
The Elida girls also dominated the Lady Panthers, winning 75-20.
Reavis Best led the girls with 23 points.
“We were real aggressive,” Lady Tigers head coach Dan Howard said. “We got out on top early and worked on our running game. They worked hard.”
