Boys * Senior Brian Blackburn scored 27 points as Grady beat Clovis Christian 65-54 on Thursday at Grady, forcing a playoff with the Eagles for the District 4-1A regular-season championship. The teams are scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Saturday in San Jon to determine the top-seed in next week’s district tournament. Dalton Thomas added 12 points for the Bronchos (16-10, 9-1 district). Meantime, senior Keeson Bell poured in 28 points for CCS (13-12, 9-1), while junior Nick Cody added 16. * Elida dominated the third quarter 22-10 to pull away for a 68-45 District 3-1A win over Melrose at Elida. Senior guard Ever Varela scored 22 points for the Tigers (21-3, 5-3), while senior guard Wesley Gilmore added 16 and junior forward Ryan Best scored 15. The Buffaloes (9-17, 1-7) were led by 11 points from sophomore forward Clint Barnard and 10 apiece from junior guard Zack Pack and sophomore guard Sammy Lawrence. Girls * Clovis Christian rallied from a nine-point deficit in the final quarter to edge Grady 44-43 Thursday night in Grady, clinching the No. 2 seed in next week’s District 4-1A tournament. Senior Lauren Douma scored on an offensive rebound with about a minute left, capping a 14-4 rally in the final quarter for the Lady Eagles (13-13, 8-2). CCS coach Max Kralicek said a loss would have dropped his team to the No. 3 seed behind Logan in the district. “The kids played super defense in the fourth quarter,” Kralicek said. “These kids hang tough — they’ve been down as many as 17 points (in a game this season) and come back. “We knew we had to win. We didn’t want to have to go back to Logan (next week).” Douma finished with 14 points, while junior post Jennifer Schaap added 10 for CCS. District regular-season champion Grady (17-9, 9-1) was led by 17 points from senior guard Katarina Grau, while freshman guard Mandy Rush added 10. * At Elida, the host Lady Tigers wrapped up a perfect regular-season run through District 3-1A with a 47-42 overtime win over Melrose. Junior guard Lindsey Smith scored 13 points for Elida (23-3, 8-0), which outscored the Lady Bufaloes (14-11, 5-3) 6-1 in the extra session. Senior Lauren Graham led all scorers with 15 points for Melrose, including a pair of 3-pointers.
