ROSWELL — Junior Audrey Rodella scored three goals Friday as Clovis High’s girls downed Silver 4-2 in a quarterfinal match of a girls soccer tournament hosted by Roswell Goddard.

Rodella scored just past the midway point of the first half on an assist by sophomore Taisha Bosque. Silver tied it with a goal early in the second half, but Rodella gave the Lady Wildcats (2-2) a 3-1 lead with goals on assists by Bosque and junior Desiree Parraz.

Senior Stephenie Aguilar made it a three-goal lead, knocking in the rebound of a shot by Bosque.

“The field was slick (from rain), but once we got adjusted we started playing better,” CHS girls coach Shane Leatherwood said. “We had a lot of good (scoring) opportunities. After (Silver) tied it, I think the girls got more focused.”

The Lady Cats play either Goddard or Portales in a noon semifinal today. The third-place and championship matches are both set for 4 p.m.

Cats go 1-1 — In a tournament at Los Alamos, the Clovis High boys lost to Farmington 3-0 before coming back to beat Roswell Goddard 4-1.

CHS goals against the Rockets were scored by Alejandro Rascon, Jesus Lora, Alan Candaleria and Cesar Mendoza.
