Impact: At Roswell, the visiting Foxes came within nine seconds of shutting out NMMI for the second consecutive year.

Difference-makers: Four players scored a touchdown apiece for Fort Sumner, with senior QB Berry Stinnett throwing for one and running for another. Leading 12-0, the Foxes broke the game open with two touchdowns in a span of 3 1/2 minutes late in the fourth quarter.
Of note: Junior RB Braeden Dimitroff led a 200-yard rushing attack for the Foxes, gaining 83 yards on nine carries.
Melrose 52, Magdalena 16
Impact: The Buffaloes spotted the Steers an 8-0 inside the first minute before rattling off 52 unanswered points.
Records: Melrose 1-0, Magdalena 0-1.
Difference-makers: Senior RB Call Barnard scored four touchdowns for the Buffs, including two of at least 50 yards. Ramon Arenivar added three scores — on TD passes of 35 and 20 yards from QB Clint Barnard, and a 15-yard interception return in the fourth quarter.
Of note: The scheduled 3 p.m. start was pushed back about two hours due to rain and lightning.

Impact: The Mules were also down a touchdown early, then scored 47 points in a row before the Lobos got on the board again in the final four minutes.

Difference-makers: Senior QB Wes Wood went 18-of-28 for 302 yards and five touchdowns — four in the second quarter when the Mules opened a 33-7 lead. … Senior WR Ray Ramirez caught six passes for 111 yards and three scores, while senior WR Victor Vasquez grabbed four passes for 27 yards and two TDs. Ramirez also scored on a 59-yard fumble return in th third quarter.
Of note: Six players had at least one catch for Muleshoe.
