SANTA FE — The Clovis High Lady Wildcats took advantage of a young Santa Fe High squad Tuesday night, riding a fast start to a 25-13, 25-13, 25-22 victory over the Lady Demons.
Senior Lainey Flatow had seven kills while junior Antiesha Brown collected six kills and two blocks for the Lady Cats (4-2).
“They’re pretty young; they only had two or three seniors on their roster,” Lady Cats coach Darrel Ray said. “And we were larger across the front line.”
Ray said senior Meagan Baglien helped get the Lady Cats going.
“Meagan got off to a really fast start in the offense, and Antiesha had some fastastic hits tonight,” Ray said.
Serving was also a strong suit. Vanessa Gallegos served for 10 consecutive points in the first game and Carissa Grummer put together a six-point run in the second, according to Ray.
Santa Fe High was playing its home opener and Ray said he thought the Lady Demons had the look of a team that would struggle to be competitive.
“It looked like they were a little bit in awe of us for a while,” he said. “They didn’t do a good job of serve-receive early.”
Clovis also swept the junior varsity preliminary, beating the Lady Demons 25-11, 25-14.
The Lady Cats are scheduled to action next Tuesday when it hosts Lubbock Estacado in a 7 p.m. start at Rock Staubus Gym.
