ROSWELL — Senior Izzy Miranda was the individual champion as Clovis High’s boys finished second in the New Mexico Military Invitational cross country meet on Saturday.
Miranda’s winning time of 15 minutes, 49 seconds over five kilometers led a 1-4-5-7 finish for Clovis. Coach Mike Hankins said that, when converted to a three-mile race, Miranda’s time was the fasted for a CHS runner in at least 10 years while senior Justin Netcher, third in 16:47, would have had the third best time under those conditions.
Senior Caitlin Waters was second in girls competition at 19:32. The Lady Wildcats were second to Hobbs.
The CHS boys were without Justin Kyle (abdominal strain) and Ben Reed (family trip), while the girls did not have Gladys Miranda (conflict with soccer and Anica Chairez (band trip).
“We had three boys, if you convert (times) to three miles, ran in the 15s,” Clovis coach Mike Hankins said. “We’re anxious to get Kyle and Ben back. And the girls ran real well too, without two girls.”
