The Portales Lady Rams (8-8, 3-0 District 4-3A) are halfway to their goal of an unbeaten district season, after Thursday night’s three-game sweep of the Dexter Lady Demons 25-11, 26-24 and 25-17.

“I thought we played well,” Portales head coach Ruth Chavez said. “In the second game, we kind of let them hang around point-for-point and (we) didn’t pass the ball as well as we should have, but we came back and played well.”

Chavez called out senior setter Dallas Russell once more for leading the Lady Rams.

“Once we got the ball to Dallas, she set it up,” Chavez said. “Dallas and Jenna (Wagner) hit the ball well.”

Our hitters are really coming along,” Chavez said.

The Lady Rams host Ruidoso Tuesday, before taking a break from district play and traveling to Clovis Thursday.

The Portales girls play Ruidoso twice in the last two weeks of the season.

“We planned it that way,” Chavez said. “We wanted to give each other some competition near the end of the season.”
