CARLSBAD — The Clovis High volleyball team has the tougher part of its District 4-5A schedule out of the way.

The Lady Wildcats (12-5, 2-0 district) completed a road sweep of the district with a 25-16, 25-22, 25-17 win over Carlsbad Tuesday night.
Clovis (12-5, 2-0 district) finishes its regular season with three home matches, beginning with a 6:45 p.m. non-district outing on Thursday against Portales. The Lady Cats then play Hobbs and Carlsbad next week.

Senior outside hitter Lainey Flatow had 20 kills and five blocks against the Cavegirls (5-9, 0-2), while senior outside hitter-setter Meagan Baglien compiled four kills, four digs and 23 assists.

“We passed and served real well in Game 1, and it just (allows) your offense to get on track early,” CHS coach Darrel Ray said. “We’ve done a good job the last two or three (matches) of serve-receive behind the blocks, and passing what we don’t block.”

The Lady Cats were in control in the first game, then erased an early deficit and pulled away late in Game 2. They were in control most of the way again in the third game.

With the postseason around the corner, Ray said his team may be peaking at about the right time.

“It seems like the level of our game has stepped up the last two or three weeks,” he said.
