Muleshoe 34, Bushland 20

Impact: The Mules stay unbeaten in a Texas Class 2A Division I bi-district game played at Canyon. They advance to meet Littlefield (11-0), which also won a battle of unbeatens over Kermit 20-14.

Records: Bushland 10-1, Muleshoe 11-0.

Difference: The Mules, averaging 52 points coming in, trailed 14-13 before scoring three touchdowns in the fourth quarter — including two in a span of less than two minutes. Senior QB Wes Wood’s 1-yard run on the first play of the period put the Mules ahead. Muleshoe then recovered a fumble on the kickoff, and Wood threw a 2-yard TD pass to senior Victor Vasquez with 10:15 left.

Difference-makers: Wood, who had thrown 53 touchdown passes coming in, had only the one to Vasquez in this game. But he rushed for 62 yards and scored twice in the fourth quarter. … The Falcons jumped on top on the first play from scrimmage when Micheal Matthews broke off a 74-yard touchdown run, but Muleshoe held him to just 33 yards the rest of the night.


Fort Sumner 60, McCurdy 0

Impact: The three-time defending Class 1A champion and top-ranked  Foxes advance to this year’s title game, scheduled for Friday night at Clayton (10-1). The Yellowjackets, whose only loss came at Fort Sumner 35-0 in early September, advanced with a 27-6 win over Hagerman on Friday night.

Records: McCurdy 8-4, Fort Sumner 10-1.

Difference-makers: Junior RB Anthony Griffin scored three touchdowns, including runs of 25 and 53 yards. He also returned a fumble 8-yards for a TD, his second score in 11 seconds, for a 12-0 lead after 2 1/2 minutes. … Braeden Dimitroff rushed for 126 yards and a TD. … Junior Miguel Guevara kicked two field goals in the final six minutes of the half, giving Fort Sumner a 53-0 lead at the break.

Of note: The Foxes intercepted McCurdy five times, including two by Gonzalo Martinez. He returned one 50 yards for a touchdown less than a minute into the second half for the game’s final tally.
