PORTALES — The Clovis High girls had four players outscore the entire Hot Springs team Saturday afternoon.
What’s more, the Lady Wildcats held the Lady Tigers to just one field goal in a 64-7 mismatch at the Portales Shootout.
Junior post Antiesha Brown had 22 points and was credited with nine rebounds and 11 steals for the Lady Cats (11-4), narrowly missing a triple-double. Senior guard Jadee Isler added 11 points.
Lady Cats first-year coach Jeff Reed said his team tried to take what it could from the easy win.
“It’s nice to be able to (win) and let everybody play, but we need to be pushed,” he said.
Clovis opened a 17-2 lead at the end of the first quarter, and the rout was on.
Hot Springs, a small Class 3A program, had no one with more than two points. Bailey Shivers managed their only field goal, coming in the second quarter.
Reed said the Lady Cats were able to get their bench plenty of action in two lopsided victories.
"It was good to get these girls some playing time,” he said. “One of the biggest things we tried to do was set some goals for ourselves (during the game).”
The Lady Cats return to action on Saturday with a 6 p.m. clash with Alamogordo at Rock Staubus Gym in a rematch of the recent Plateau Holiday Classic final, won by Clovis.
