Portales at Dexter
7 p.m. today
Records: Portales 16-8, 6-0. Dexter 8-17, 2-5
At Stake: With District 4-3A’s top seed clinched, the Rams are using back-to-back home games against Dexter and Ruidoso (6 p.m. Saturday) as tournament tune-ups.
Last Meeting: Portales beat Dexter 63-23.
Last time out: Portales lost to Texico 36-33. Dexter beat NMMI 57-54.
Notes: Last time Dexter played Portales, the Demons committed 22 turnovers in the first half of the game giving Portales a 22-4 edge in the second quarter. Joseph Bowles was Dexter’s leading scorer with seven points. Portales coach Mark Gallegos wants to use full court pressure on Dexter to keep them from scoring as they did before. Gallegos said we want to have an up tempo game so we can push the ball up the court for some easy baskets. Gallegos will have the team keying in on Dexter’s point guard, Zach Fuller. Gallegos said, “Fuller is one of their better players and last time we shut him down. We’re going to play man-to-man defense and try to stay in front of him and pressure the basketball so they can’t throw it in to him.”
