Clovis eighth-grader Jesenia Velez returns a shot against Miranda Garcia of Las Vegas Robertson during their No. 1 singles match on Tuesday.

All in all, it was a profitable day for Clovis High’s tennis teams on Tuesday.

In matches played at the CHS and Clovis Community College courts, the Lady Wildcats cruised to dual victories over Las Vegas Robertson 9-0 and Roswell Goddard 7-2. The boys, meantime, settled for a split — losing 8-1 to Class 3A power Robertson while beating Goddard 7-2.

Portales also took part in the event, although the Rams and Lady Rams didn’t play their Clovis counterparts. Clovis and Portales are scheduled to meet twice later this season.

The Lady Cats needed two “super-tiebreakers” against Robertson — tiebreakers played to 10 points after splitting sets. Meantime, they split super-tiebreakers against Goddard in doubles, with Kalee Haragan and Jesenia Velez losing 10-4 at No. 1 and Mandi Baca and Gabby Romero pulling out a 10-8 win at No. 3.

Clovis’ boys took two of three super-tiebreakers against Goddard, with Charlie Sharp prevailing 10-0 at No. 5 singles and teaming with Devin Bhakta for a 12-10 win over Goddard’s Greg Ramirez and Andrew Wiser.

Clovis squads return to action on Thursday in a 3 p.m. dual at Lovington.
