LAS CRUCES — Clovis High’s girls bounced back from a first-round loss to rout Santa Teresa 11-1 in consolation bracket play of a 16-team invitational tournament here Friday.

The Lady Wildcats (4-5) face Onate in a noon consolation semifinal today, and will play for either ninth or 11th place later in the day.

Stefanee Ricketson hit two-run doubles in each of the first two innings and Brittany Mascarenas went 2-for-3 for the Lady Cats, who scored six in the first and built an 11-0 lead through three innings against the Desert Warriors.  The game was called after 3 1/2 innings because of the tournament’s time limit.

In the opening round, the Lady Cats dropped a 3-1 decision to Mayfield.

Both teams finished that game with just four hits. Nicole Anaya went 3-for-4 for Clovis and scored the Lady Cats’ lone run in the third inning on a single by Ricketson.

The Trojans scored twice in the first and once in the second before being blanked the rest of the way by senior left-hander Adrianna Aguilar.

CHS coach Brandi Thomas said her team played much better after losing a doubleheader on Tuesday at home against Artesia.

“The first game was a recovery from playing against Artesia,” Thomas said. “Mayfield’s a pretty solid team, and we played with them; we just had a couple of mental errors.”
