ROSWELL — Errors were the downfall for the Portales volleyball team Tuesday night the Lady Rams dropped a 27-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-12 decision to Roswell High.

Four service errors in the first game were costly as the game slipped away from the Lady Rams (6-4).

Portales coach Ruth Chavez said the team simply suffered an ugly loss.

“We had a lot more errors than kills,” Lady Rams coach Ruth Chavez said. “We didn’t play like we would normally play. We had a bad night.”

The young Roswell High squad managed to take advantage of Portales’ errors to stay with the Lady Rams.

“They are an inexperienced team, and we should have beaten them in three games,” Chavez said. “We just let them hang around and hang around.”

Chavez said the Lady Rams had a lot of hitting errors in the fourth game and keeping the match alive.

“When you stay point for point,” Chavez said, “a lot of times it doesn’t go your way.”

The Lady Rams return to Roswell on Tuesday for a matchup against Roswell Goddard.
