ARTESIA — Quran Wiggins rushed for 132 yards on 11 carries and scored two touchdowns to help the Clovis Wildcats build a 27-10 halftime lead over Artesia on Friday night.
Wiggins gave the Cats a 7-0 lead after one quarter with a 59-yard TD run at the 4:30 mark. After a 60-yard kickoff return by Emery Sierra, Wiggins added a 1-yard scoring run with 2 1/2 minutes to go in the half to make it 20-7.
Quarterback Jordan Hill scored on a 1-yard run early in the second quarter to make it 13-0, but Artesia answered on a 19-yard scoring strike from Josh Houghtaling to Andy Lopez.
Hill ran nine yards for his second TD with 39 seconds left in the half, a score set up by an interception by Blake Wiley. The Bulldogs used a long pass play, though, to get in position for a 24-yard field goal by Rolando Chavarria as time expired.
