MELROSE — Fifth-seeded Dora, which went winless in regular-season District 3-1A play, pulled off a 25-14, 20-25, 25-20, 30-28 upset of fourth-seeded Melrose on Tuesday in the first round of the district tournament.
The Lady Coyotes (5-14) erased a three-point deficit late in Game 3 to pull ahead in the match. Melrose (12-9) then led 24-24 in the fourth set, but a service error prevented the Lady Buffs (12-9) from a chance to pull even in the match and force a fifth game.
Dora travels to third-seeded Elida in a 7 p.m. match today, with that winner advancing to a semifinal match at second-seeded Floyd on Thursday.
The championship is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Saturday at top-seeded Fort Sumner.
