Clovis at Plainview

6:30 p.m. today

Radio: 1240 KCLV AM, KRMQ 101.5 FM.

Records: Clovis 3-2, Plainview 9-5

Last game: The Wildcats suffered a 66-50 home loss Monday to Canyon Randall. The Bulldogs beat Dumas 84-36, also on Monday.

Going in: The teams have not played each other in the last five seasons. Scott Robinson, who got a sudden promotion to head coach after J.D. Isler’s season-long suspension from the New Mexico Activities Assocation, said he scouted the Bulldogs a week ago in Canyon, and the Wildcats played them twice in summer ball.

“They can really cause you some matchup problems,” Robinson said. “Obviously, we’re going to have to defend them well and try to limit their 3-point shooting.”

Robinson, in his third season as varsity assistant, has coached one game for the Wildcats — a 84-62 loss to Hobbs last season, one game after Isler had to sit out a game after an ejection.

Back for the Cats: Junior guard Deven Crockett will return to the Wildcat lineup tonight. Crockett played in Clovis’ season-opening 72-28 win over Portales, but was later ruled ineligible and the Wildcats had to forfeit the win.

“ It helps the depth quite a bit,” Robinson said. “He brings a lot of playmaking ability to the team. It will definitely be a boost, and I look forward to having him back.”

Athletic Director Brian Stacy said he erred in not treating Crockett as a transfer — and requiring he sit out 90 days before playing — because Crockett attended Clovis as a freshman and moved back to the same house in Clovis for his junior year.
