* Senior guard Jocelyn Swann capped a 14-point second half with a buzzer-beating 3-pointer Saturday, lifting Clovis Christian to a 28-27 win over the Portales junior varsity at the CCS gym.
It was the second consecutive one-point win for the Lady Eagles (2-7), who edged the Clovis junior varsity 43-42 on Thursday night at Rock Staubus Gym.
Swann was held scoreless in the first half as the Lady Rams used a 13-2 second quarter to build an 18-6 lead at halftime. Portales still led by 10 points after three periods, but CCS outscored the Lady Rams 16-5 to take the victory.
Corie Burress had eight points for the Lady Rams.
* Elida dominated the final three quarters to overcome an early nine-point deficit and beat Jal 67-46 behind junior Reavis Best’s 25-point outing to improve to 7-2. Best, junior Margarita Ortiz (17) and freshman Shealton Veo-Chenault (15) combined for all but 10 of Elida’s points. Junior guard Erin Deck led the Lady Panthers (4-4) with 13 points.
Boys
* Miguel Vasquez had three 3-pointers and finished with 17 points as the Portales junior handed Clovis Christian a 56-42 loss at CCS.
Kiesto Ontiveros added 13 points and Enrique Urioste 12 for the Rams, who led 15-1 after the first quarter and stayed in control the rest of the way.
The Eagles (1-10) got 11 points from sophomore Kendall Naceanceno in the loss.
* At Jal, the Panthers (5-3) limited Elida to 12 first-half points and held on down the stretch for a 41-38 win behind 16 points from senior guard Alexis Lujan. Junior guards Alex Varela and Magin Montoya scored 11 points each for the Tigers (3-4).
