The Portales Lady Rams had a walk in the park on Saturday.
Facing a Roswell Goddard team which has had only six games closer than 24 points, the Lady Rams rolled to a 26-3 lead at the quarter, then took the foot off the pedal and cruised to a 51-10 win at the PHS gym.
Junior forward Gabby Garcia scored 12 points and senior guard Alexis Orcutt had two 3-pointers and 10 points for the Lady Rams (8-5). Senior guard Ashley Hernandez, meantime, finished with nine points on three 3-pointers.
“We just on them in the first quarter and played real well, and then we backed off,” Lady Rams coach Clay Stout said. “You kind of feel bad for a team like that. It’s been a very long year for them.”
Only two players scored for the Lady Rockets (0-17), including senior post Bethany Johnson, who had seven points.
The Lady Rams return to action on Tuesday when they host Clovis in a 7 p.m. game, then travel to Roswell on Friday for a rematch with the Lady Rockets.
